4th Of July Flag Decor

If you’ve ever tried making your own American flag decor, then you know how hard it is to get those stripe lines perfect or make sure you have enough stars so it looks like you have all 50 states.

Believe me, I’ve been there!

So this year I was on a mission to create a 4th of July American flag decor item that would not require ANY straight lines.

I’m pleased to say my mission was accomplished!

This decor piece is simple, easy, and has excellent potential for being gentle on your wallet!

Let’s jump into today’s project.

Materials

  • Mason jar lids (just the rim not the circle seal)

  • Blue and white stars ribbon

  • Red and white ribbon (both colors together on the ribbon or 2 separate ribbons)

  • Greenery

  • Hot Glue

  • Jute Twine

  • Tags or tan paper to make your own

  • Numbers and/or letters (I used stamps and brown ink but you can use anything)

  • Scissors

  • Hole punch (if you’re making your own tags)

  • Wire cutters (if your greenery is attached to a bundle)

How To Make A 4th Of July American Flag Decoration

DIY American Flag

Step 1

Brainstorm styles. You’ll notice in my pictures that I did 2 different styles. Both are easy to do!

Step 2

Wrap your ribbon around the lid.

For one of mine, I wrapped the red and white ribbon most of the way around the lid; securing both ends with hot glue.

For the other, I took the red and white ribbon and stretched it across the lid; securing both ends with hot glue.

Step 3

Add the blue and white star ribbon.

For the first one, I finished wrapping the lid with this ribbon and then added a matching bow.

For the other, I just made a bow with the ribbon and attached it.

Step 4

Secure the Jute twine for hanging.

I secured my twine on the edge of the lid but feel free to try other arrangements.

Step 5

Make the tags.

There are many different phrases, words, etc. that you can put on your tags.

I decided to keep it simple and just put the year of our independence on the tag using stamps-because my handwriting isn’t always the best.

Step 6

Add the greenery.

This step is really optional. If you love the way yours currently looks then leave it. You don’t have to add greenery.

I place the greenery on both lids at the top. One has it poking out of the bow.

And That’s It!

These will look great as fillers in your hanging decor!
