Handmade Wreath

I’m not gonna lie…I was intimidated by making my own wreaths at first.

I mean, how does one even go about deciding what to put on the wreath and how much?

So, here’s what I did.

I started small and I started cheap.

I went to the good ole Dollar Tree and snagged anything I thought could go on a wreath. I actually grabbed a little too much.

Of course, I tried replicating some of the fancier ones I had seen in the stores and online. No luck. I just couldn’t find the exact supplies nor did I have the means to buy some of the more “quality” products.

Instead, I used what I found as inspiration!

It also, turns out that making wreaths is fun and so much easier than it actually looks!

Today I’m showing you how I made some of my first wreaths using items I found at the Dollar Tree and the clearance sections at the craft stores.

With a little bit of patience and trial and error, you will be on your way to a beautiful handmade wreath!

Materials

*Hot Glue

*An embroidery hoop-or anything else that is similar to the structure of a wreath

*Flowers and greenery

*Ribbon

*Any other embellishments that your wonderful heart desires

DIY Wreath: The Steps

Step 1

Layout everything you have and make a plan/design in your head or on paper of what you want the finished product to look like.

Step 2

Start with your base.

Decide if you’re going to stain or paint your hoop. Are you going to wrap it in some kind of material?

Once you’ve decided go ahead and do it!

For mine, I decided to leave it just the way it was. I have done a couple where I wrapped the hoop in yarn and a couple where I stained the embroidery hoop.

Step 3

Layout the pieces you will glue down and get them in an arrangement you like!

This step may take some time as you can arrange the items in endless ways.

Something I did to help this process was I took pictures of potential arrangements that I liked. Then I went through them and chose the one I liked the best.

So much faster than rearranging everything a million times!

Step 4

Glue the main focal point on.

If you don’t have a main focal point, move on to the next step!

If you have a bigger item, something that will take up the most space on your wreath, glue this down first.

Mine was this cute “grateful” metal sign!

Step 5

Glue everything on!

Now that you know how everything will be arranged it’s time to glue it down.

There is no right or wrong way to do this!

I like to start with the big stuff and work my way down to the smaller items. Such as, I glued the flowers first before the greenery.

Add as much or as little of the items you have. You don’t even have to stick to the arrangement you originally planned to do.

Sometimes I will think an arrangement looks great until I start gluing things down. Then I realize that I may have been a bit overzealous with the arrangement. Less can indeed be more in the case of a handmade wreath!

Step 6

Add a bow or hanging ribbon or some other device for hanging wreaths.

I have seen multiple ways to hang a wreath and they all depend on the type of material you use as the base of the wreath.

So far, for the wreaths that I have made, I found they look and hang best with nothing! When I hang them up it’s the base itself that’s holding the wreath in place.

Now go show off your amazing wreath!
