How To Easily Create Your Own Coat Rack
I absolutely LOVE the uniqueness of this coat rack! I also love that it doubles as wall decor. I promise you don’t need to be a skilled painter to be able to create something like this.
Come on! I’ll show you how!
Materials
Wooden board (any length you want and at least 1 ½ inches thick)
Any style hook you like-even knobs if you want (you want enough to fit the size board you have; spacing them out a foot apart)
Screws for the hooks if they did not come with any. (Be sure to get screws that will not go deeper than the thickness of your board but long enough to support the weight placed on the hook.)
Wood stain- any color you like
Paint- any color you like
Painter’s tape
Paintbrush
Paint sponge (optional)
Mod Podge (optional)
Picture hanging hardware
Sandpaper
Measuring Tape
Step 1
Sand your wood board. Then wipe it down with a damp paper towel.
Step 2
Using the paint sponge, rag, or paper towel, stain the wood board.
*A little stain goes a long way. Follow the instruction on the can of stain.
Step 3
When the stain has dried completely, use painter’s tape to create your design. Use the tape to create the border for the design you will paint.
Step 4 *Optional*
Mod Podge the inside edges of your design. This helps to seal any gaps in the tape that the paint may leak under. That being said, this is wood that we are working with so there is still a chance that it could leak under. There is also a good chance that, if you choose to omit this step, if the paint does leak under it won’t be all that noticeable.
Step 5
Paint your design! You may need to apply several coats of paint to cover the stain.
Step 6
Once the paint has dried add the picture hanging hardware to the back. You will need to use at least 2-one near each end. Use the measuring tape to measure the length of your board. Divide that number by either 3 or 4-depends on where you prefer the hardware to be. Start at the edge and measure that distance in-install hardware 1. Repeat on the other side.
Step 7
Add the hooks! This time take the length of your board and divide it by the number of hooks you have-this gives you the distance to space your hooks apart by; leaving half of that measurement of space on the very ends.
AND DONE!
