How To Make A Wooden Quote Sign In 7 Steps Or Less
Today I’m going to show you how to turn any quote or phrase into a wooden sign. Please note that I use a Cricut machine for this project.
Materials
Paintbrushes (at least 3)
Paint (color of your choosing. One for the background and a contrasting color for the letters such as white or black.)
Vinyl (I use shelf liner from the dollar store)
Mod Podge
Wood (you can use any size you’d like, mine were 3” by 15”)
Let’s Begin!
You can choose to stencil first or to paint first. I will be showing you the latter.
Step 1
Paint the wood board the color of your choice. Apply as many coats needed to get a clean finish.
Step 2
While the paint dries, create your stencil on your cutting machine-you’ll want it to be about an inch or more smaller than the dimensions of your board. Then cut it out on the vinyl-you want to keep the outline of the letters.
Step 3
Place your stencil onto the wood. Make sure there are no air pockets.
Step 4
Paint your stencil with the Mod Podge to seal the edges. This will prevent the paint from bleeding and give you clean edges.
Step 5
When the Mod Podge is dry paint the stencil with your contrasting color. Apply as many coats as needed to conceal the background.
Step 6
Once the paint is almost or completely dry, carefully pull off the stencil.
Step 7
Touch up any areas that need it. Check for clean edges around your letters and any spot that might have been impacted by the stencil-there shouldn’t be many if any.
AND DONE!
This project is great because you have so many choices for what you can do with the background and it also makes a great gift!
