Crescent Moon Wreath

I had two reasons for wanting to make this crescent moon wreath.

  1. I wanted something simple and cute for Halloween decor. Something that would compliment the rest of my decor while also adding to the excitement of the holiday.

2. I wanted to add something unique to my typical, go-to decor.

I also had this handmade craft saved on Pinterest and was ready to make it.

Off To The Dollar Tree…

This DIY crescent moon wreath was made using items found at the good ole Dollar Tree, but you can also find them at any craft store.

I will say that depending on what kind of wreath you are looking to make will most likely determine if all of your supplies can be found at the dollar store or a craft store.

Such as; if you’re looking to make a crescent moon wreath with crystals then you’ll have better luck finding the crystals at another craft store.

Materials

  • Wire Wreath Circle

  • Floral Twine

  • Wire Cutters

  • Fabric (Grab any material you would like to use as a base for your wreath)

  • Embellishments (Items like flowers, bows, small wood or metal cutouts. Things to decorate your wreath with)

  • Hot Glue (with a glue gun of course) or industrial glue (it’s like super glue)

  • Ribbon (or some other material you will use as a way to hang your wreath once it’s finished)

How To Make A Crescent Moon Wreath

Step 1

Using wire cutters, cut out a section of the wire circle. On mine, I had three separate sections. I made my cuts just above the piece of wire that connects all three wire circles

Step 2

You should now have two ends that have three separate wires. Take the floral wire and wrap these ends together; bringing them to a point.

This is where you get the crescent shape!

Step 3

Now comes the fun part!

Take your fabric-or whatever you have chosen as your wreath base-and begin wrapping it around your crescent wreath wire frame. Use some hot glue to adhere the material to the wire.

I advise you to pay extra attention when using hot glue with this project. Hot glue will burn your skin. Don’t let fabric, metal, or any other material you use fool you into thinking you can touch it while it has warm hot glue on it.

I found some silicone fingertip protectors at the Dollar Tree when getting my supplies and used them with this project and many others.

Step 4

Add your decorative pieces. Again, carefully using hot glue, adhere any embellishments to the parts of your wreath where you want them.

If you’re not sure where you want something, try placing it in different spots before you glue it down-I tend to do this before I glue anything down permanently.

Another idea is to search Google Images for inspiration-you may have done this before even getting your supplies so be sure to bring those photos back up for ideas as you add your own unique touches to your wreath!

Step 5

Add the material that will be used to hang the wreath.

Now, this step is actually optional!

Since the wreath is made from wire, you can try and find a spot on the frame to hang it from. As you might learn-like I did-getting these beauties to hang straight can be quite a challenge-that is if you want them to hang straight.

The photos in this post show that I chose to attach fabric and string to my two crescent moon wreaths; which probably took the most time out of everything else in this handmade decor item to do. The next one I make most certainly will be hung using the wireframe itself!

So there! In 5-possibly or most definitely 4 steps you can make your own unique, handmade, crescent moon wreath and for a lot less money than you may spend to purchase one!
